Takeoff in six hours
The day we left for Spain we were delayed in the air for forty-five minutes before landing at JFK airport. The delay was due in part to impending snow and the havoc created by a plane sliding off the runway at Laguardia airport. Our daughter's flight from Pittsburg was cancelled -- along with hundreds of other flights -- and she was forced to do an overnight bus ride from to New York, which meant she would not be flying out with us. We boarded the plane only to deboard an hour later because the captain was waiting on the plane's log book, which was ultimately in his possession four hours later. After reboarding, we were delayed nearly an hour while the plane was deiced. Needless to say we were exhausted by the time we reached Barcelona, but that paled in comparison to our daughter's 48-hour ordeal of buses, taxis, planes, and misinformed ticket agents.
