Years ago before lung cancer claimed my mom's life she visited my family in Oregon. She was in her late 50's and had been a lifelong smoker. We were in downtown Portland, Oregon showing her around. I can recall vividly how she struggled to walk up sloped hills, breathing heavily and moving slowly for someone her age. I expect the young woman in this photo will experience the same problems down the road.
