I snapped this image while walking the dog through the neighborhood. The objects were found in the front of a workman's trailer. I find it interesting to wonder about how each item came to rest where it does.

The Hunt for Nessieloon

nessieloon.jpg

The idea for Nessieloon took a long time to pop into my head. Even after I had the main idea I still thought it lacked something so I began searching for whale hunting photos. At one time I was going to insert a boat with someone shooting a harpoon. This became three harpoons all pointing at Nessieloon. Finally, I decided one carefully placed harpoon was enough. This theme and idea is similar to one of my favorite pieces I created a while back, "Trigger goes POP!"

The balloon photo was taken over a year ago. The harpoon was painted from reference. The wave image seen below was used to combine everything together.

Rabid Appetite

I posed my daughter for this image, taking several shots. She was sat on a stool in a closet, shades drawn. I bounced the flash off the ceiling while she pretended to be gnawing on her forearm. A shot of tree fungus (see image below) was overlayed and brushed in. The main eating area is a combination of digital painting mixed in with the tree fungus.

After seeing the image below of a buried crab claw the movie, "Princess Bride" popped into my head. In the movie Mandy Patinkin plays Inigo Montoya, a man out to avenge his father's death. Just before starting a sword fight he proclaims in a polite, but serious tone, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die." It seemed logical that a seagull would eat a crab, and that one of that crabs offspring would one day grow up with a huge claw to avenge his father's death.

Two external images were used from my portfolio. The bird I used actually went over the top of where a different gull used to be. This birds mouth was opened up. The extra parts of crab leg were painted in Photoshop.

Room for One More

I set out to create a wacky image by adding all sorts of images to the image below. All external photos were shot by myself.

Sunny-Side Up

sunny-side-up.jpg
Sunny Side Up is loosely based on the real-life egg yolk jellyfish, and is part of an ongoing series which uses images of animal poop for inspiration. This image began with a shot of bird poop (starting image below), all other details were painted in Photoshop.

Lost My Bearings

disoriented.jpg

"Lost My Bearings" was created for a deviantArt contest around the themes of speechless, physical disorientation, and death. All of which are featured prominently in the upcoming new movie, "The Happening." Unfortunately the contest ended prematurely without warning or explanation so I wasn't able to submit it.

The image is the result of combining a shot of myself and one other image, a dirty bathroom mirror. Finished in Photoshop.

Bombs Away!

Mmmmmm...do you smell that? This image was made from a shot of dog poop and my dog's eyeball. A few Photoshop brushes were used to paint in the background. With the exception of the eyeballs everything else was lovingly made with poop.

For political humor site Destonio I installed Gallery, a photo album organizer developed by the open source community. Gallery has been around for some time, is built well and has been audited by external security experts. Setup was a breeze after unpacking, setting permissions and creating a MYSQL database. It comes with a few design themes which can easily be tweaked through CSS and template files. It comes with many other features like commenting and a rating system. There's an abundance of plugins to add additional features. Cost: free or you can make a donation to the developers after you've determined Gallery is the right application for you.
