Neighborhood Listserve

The other day I found a set of important looking keys on top of a trash can at Spinney Park in Kirkland, WA. Looking around the park I could see no one to whom I could ask about the missing keys. I briefly debated whether or not to leave them, thinking that the owner might be back through, frantically retracing their steps and searching in vain. I opted to take the keys home whereupon arriving I fired off an email to Karen who runs the Kirkland Highlands Neighborhood Association listserve. Within minutes of receiving my email she sent out an e-mail bulletin announcing my find.

Later that day I received one bite, but they weren't the right keys. By the next day I received one more e-mail from someone who correctly identified the keys. She had been in the neighborhood to walk a friend's dog. Somewhere along the walk she dropped her keys, and someone else found the keys, setting them on the garbage can. Fortunately for the woman her friend is subscribed to the neighborhood listserve. That same night we met, she got her keys, and I was handed a nice bottle of red wine from a very grateful individual.

If your neighborhood has a listserve, find it, sign-up, and participate. No neighborhood listserve? Be the first to start one.
