Bruce Shepard is now Western Washington University's 13th unlucky president.
In this morning's Seattle Times online edition of the local news section it would appear that Mr. Shepard is either a happy-faced murderer or his picture is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Instead of his picture floating to the right of his story, WWU confirms new president, it mysteriously made it to the top where it floated alongside this headline: "Man is charged in roommate's death".
Mr. Shepard is either the butt of a cruel and funny joke or sloppy coding by the Seattle Times' Web heads.
When I first glanced at this story, my eyes read the headline, glanced at the photo, read the first paragraph, and then looked the photo over some more. The alleged killer looked so cheerful to me. "What could have gone wrong?" I wondered. Then I noticed the blurb under the photo with his name. I then had to glance back at the article to see if the names were different. They were different. Nevertheless, the image of Mr. Shepard will forever remain sketched in my head as a happy-faced killer.
Same day update: His picture has now been removed from the page entirely.
